Mahinder Singh Sidhu

Born on 28 February 1930 in Alor Setar, Kedah, the late Mahinder Singh Sidhu was the only son of Mr Isher Singh and Madam Kisher Kaur. He received his primary education in Sultan Abdul Hamid College in Alor Setar and secondary education in Victoria Institution and Penang Free School. He was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law, Lincoln’s Inn in 1977. He was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 12 April 1979 and thereafter joined the firm of R.K. Nathan & Co. In 1989, he set up his own firm under the name and style of Mahinder Singh Sidhu & Co.

Prior to taking up law, Mahinder Singh Sidhu was serving the Royal Malaysian Police holding the following posts:

1957 – 1960 – ‘A’ Division (Crime), High Street, K.L.
1961 – 1962 – ‘B’ Division (Crime), Campbell Road, K.L.
1962 – 1963 – A/OCPD, Kajang, Selangor
1963 – 1964 – Prosecuting Officer, Parit Buntar, Krian
1964 – 1965 – Police Field Force Platoon Commander, Ipoh, Perak
1965 – 1969 – Investigating Officer, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan
1969 – 1972 – Investigating Officer, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
1972 – 1974 – Police Packing Bay, Ampang, K.L.
1974 – 1976 – Investigating Officer, Klang, Selangor

Besides practising law, Mahinder Singh Sidhu had also written four books:

1. The Motor Insurer, Insured and Third Party Rights
2. Penanggung dan Pengambil Insurans Motor dan Hak Pihak Ketiga
3. Casebook on Motor Insurance Law in Malaysia and Singapore
4. The Law of Wills, Probate, Administration and Succession in Malaysia and Singapore

The late Mahinder Singh Sidhu passed away on 1 January 1997 leaving behind his wife, Hardev Kaur Gill and three children, Gurdeep Kaur, Kuldip Singh and Surinder Singh. He is dearly missed by all.
