All Advocates and Solicitors of the High Court of Malaya practising within the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur shall be deemed to be members of the Kuala Lumpur Bar.
Where a firm has a branch in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, all partners of that firm (irrespective of where they are based) must be a member of the Kuala Lumpur Bar.
All Advocates and Solicitors intending to practise or open a branch office within the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur are to give notice of their intention to commence legal practice in Kuala Lumpur and pay their annual subscription to the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee. Members must be in possession of valid Practising Certificate to carry out active practice. Please check with the Bar Council (firstname.lastname@example.org or tel: +603 2050 2050) pertaining to applications for Sijil Annual and Practising Certificate.
The Qualifying Board, established under the Legal Profession Act, 1976 is responsible for the evaluation and recognition of qualifications for legal practice in Malaysia. The Board also conducts examination and awards Certificates in Legal Practice for those with recognised law degree but who are not eligible for direct admission.

Every Advocate & Solicitor practising within the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur is required to pay to the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee an annual subscription.
The rate of subscription is determined at the Annual General Meeting each year and must be paid no later than 30th June. Click here to make payment.

Commencing practice after 30th June and before 1st October – RM62.50
Commencing practice after 30th September – Exempted
Commencing practice between 1st January and the date of the AGM of the Kuala Lumpur Bar – As subscription for the year will only be fixed at the AGM a Clearance will be issued for the year before
B) Resuming Practice – RM125.00. Send SD together with payment slip.
C) Was Practising Outside Kuala Lumpur / Practising Outstation but Partner of Firm with an office in Kuala Lumpur
Commencing practice in Kuala Lumpur/made a partner before 1st July – RM125.00
Commencing practice in Kuala Lumpur/made a partner after 30th June – RM62.50
