PDC Seminar on Acquisition and Finance of Ships: The Issues
Joanne Long, a consultant with Khairuddin Ngiam & Tan presented the seminar which was held at the KL Bar Auditorium at 3.00pm. The seminar was attended by 59 participants. The seminar covered the following areas on Acquisition: “New Built & Secondhand Vessels, Shipbuilding Agreement / Norwegian Sale Form, Basic Terms, Processes, Closing Documents, Refund Guarantee, Registration of Ships” and the following areas on Finance: “Loan Structure, Securities, Loan Documentation, Drawdown Procedure, Registration of Mortgage”.

SACC and YLC – How to Paddle a Dragon: 2nd Introductory Workshop to Dragon Boating
The Social, Arts and Culture Committee (SACC) with the Young Lawyers Committee (YLC) jointly organised a 2nd Introductory Workshop to Dragon Boating on 15 January 2012 at the Putrajaya Maritime Centre at 9.00am. Places were limited to 20 participants.

KLBC Pupils Introduction Session
Organised by the KL Bar Pupils Welfare Committee (PWC), the introduction session for January was held on 17 January 2012. The session, attended by 81 pupils, was led by Jason Kong and Ravin Singh. Pupils were briefed on the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the KL Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the KL Bar Committee and highlights of the Malaysian Bar. The introduction session included a session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their period of pupillage and the Chairman and members of the KLBC were present to provide input and possible solutions. Amongst the issues raised by the pupils at this session were low allowance, long working hours, dispatch work, issues with the court staff, touts, e-filing and the online forms.

PDC Forum on Women in Law
Meera Samanther from Messrs Kang & Kang, Preetha Pillai from Messrs Skrine & Co and Nahzatul Ain bte Mohd Khalid from Messrs Khalid, Iqbal & Associates presented the Forum held at the KL Bar Auditorium at 7.30pm. The forum was attended by 36 participants. The forum covered various areas from the challenges a woman lawyer faces in the legal fraternity to excelling within the ambits of the profession. Real time experiences and knowledge were shared by the speakers who themselves have dealt with various challenges and succeeded in the profession.
