A meeting was held on 8 May 2015 between the KLBC Criminal Practice Committee and Police officers from the IPD Dang Wangi to discuss, amongst various issues, the issue of lawyers’ access to their clients/accused persons at the Dang Wangi Remand Centre. The following two issues have been resolved as follows:

Meeting the accused person
An appointed lawyer who wishes to meet his/her client to obtain instructions prior to the remand hearing in the morning, must first fill up the Remand Form with information of the full name and NRIC number of his/her client. The officer on duty at the Remand Centre will then contact the Investigating Officer (IO) in charge to seek approval for the lawyer to meet his/her client. If the IO is not locatable, the lawyer may then ask to speak with Tuan Gunalan.

Copy of the Remand Form can be downloaded by clicking the pdf icon on the top right corner.

Locating the accused person
Lawyers may call the officer in charge of the Dang Wangi Lockup at 03-2600 2227 to ascertain the whereabouts of their detained client.
