Document Formatting For E-Filing

Circular No: 052/2025
Date: 27 March 2025

Dear Members of the Kuala Lumpur Bar,

The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (“KLBC”) has received feedback from the Deputy Registrar of the High Court (Civil Division) regarding instances where documents filed in the EFS system for civil matters do not comply with the formatting requirements outlined in the Rules of Court 2012, in particular the margin of the documents.

This failure to adhere to the prescribed margin has resulted in the text overlapping with the serial number generated by the system at the bottom of the documents when the said documents are processed in the EFS system.

We strongly urge members to ensure that all documents being filed comply with the required formatting specifications. Members may refer to Order 63, Rule 1 of the Rules of Court 2012 for guidance, reproduced below:

1. Specifications for documents (O. 63 r. 1)

Unless the nature of the document renders it impracticable, every document prepared by a party for use in the Court shall be on paper of durable quality, approximately 11.69 inches (297 mm.) long, by 8.27 inches (210 mm.) wide, having a margin, not less than 1 inch wide to be left blank on either side of the paper. Every document may be printed on both sides of the paper.

[our emphasis]

Kindly take note.
