Circular No: 141/2021 | The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee Covid -19 Vaccine Delivery Initiative Update

Circular No: 141/2021
Date: 24 June 2021

Dear Members and Pupils-in-Chambers of the Malaysian Bar,

On 23.06.2021, our Vivek Sukumaran and Alvin Oh met with YB Khairy Jamaluddin, the Right Honourable Minister charged with coordinating immunisation efforts.

A presentation was given to the Minister highlighting the risks of exposure to Covid-19 faced by Members and Pupils-in-Chambers of the Malaysian Bar in the discharge of their duties as lawyers.

The Minister recognises and acknowledges the role of lawyers in the administration of justice and shares his concerns over the safety of Members and Pupils-In-Chambers when discharging their duties.

Pursuant to the aforesaid meeting with the Minister, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (“MOSTI”) has agreed to prioritise the vaccination of Members and Pupils-in-Chambers of the Malaysian Bar who have registered their interest via the link provided in KLBC Circular 131 (“the Link”)

As at 23.06.2021, 1,908 Members and Pupils-in-Chambers have registered via the said Link (“Registrants”).

MOSTI aims to provide the Registrants with vaccination appointments via their MySejahtera application by 15 July 2021 with priority being given to:-

1. Registrants who have declared health complications on the Link;
2. Registrants who are aged 50 and above;
3. Registrants who have yet to receive their 1st dose of the vaccine.

In view of multiple factors with regard to vaccination, MOSTI will consider fixing appointments of Registrants who are currently awaiting their 2nd doses accordingly.

Apart from notifications via the MySejahtera application, the KLBC will endeavour to email or SMS the Registrants with any additional information received from MOSTI with regard to vaccine appointments.

The vaccine will be administered at no cost to Members and Pupils-in-Chambers. The type of vaccine to be administered is strictly subject to availability at the respective vaccine delivery centres (“PPV”).

For the purposes of channeling Registrants to their nearest PPV, MOSTI will fix appointments based on the current addresses registered by Members on their MySejahtera application.
As such, Registrants are reminded to ensure that they have accurately entered their most current address on MySejahtera.

Those who did not register via the Link as at 23.06.2021 are encouraged to fill up the form here. This is required to enable the transmission of data to MOSTI to facilitate the provision of future appointment dates.

For Members and Pupils-in-Chambers who face any issues with the Link and/or have any queries concerning this Circular, kindly direct your queries to vaccine.klbar@klbar.org.my.

In the meantime, we will endeavour to ensure that no Member and/or Pupil-in-Chambers of the Malaysian Bar is left behind.

Stay safe always.
