Appeal for Donations and Essential Supplies for Penang Flood Victims
Dear Members,
As Members would be aware, Penang suffered severe floods on 4 and 5 Nov 2017 after heavy downpours and a tropical storm unlike any that Penang has experienced before. Many people have been affected by the floods on both Penang island as well as the mainland, and some of the flood victims include several staff of the Penang Bar Committee and Penang Legal Aid Centre.
The Penang Bar Committee is initiating a donation drive to collect both cash and essential supplies for the flood victims. The Penang Bar Committee’s circular appealing for contribution is reproduced below for your attention.
On behalf of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, I appeal to all our Members to come together to extend our assistance to donate what we can to alleviate the hardship faced by the flood victims. I am sure Members of the Kuala Lumpur Bar will rise to the occasion and render their support to our fellow citizens in this time of need.
All contributions are to be made to the addresses as indicated in the Penang Bar Committee’s circular below. Monetary donations can also be made through direct bank-in or bank transfer to the Penang Bar Committee. The Bank details are as follows:

Collection of Donations and Essential Supplies for Flood Victims
As Members would be aware, Penang suffered severe floods on 4 and 5 Nov 2017 after heavy downpours and a tropical storm unlike any we have experienced before. Many people have been affected by the floods on both Penang island as well as the mainland, and some of the flood victims include several staff of the Penang Bar Committee and Penang Legal Aid Centre.
The Penang Bar Committee is initiating a donation drive to collect both cash and essential supplies for the flood victims and we appeal to members for your kind consideration and contribution towards this project.
Essential Supplies
The Committee will be collecting the following supplies:
- Rice
- Sugar
- Drinking water
- Milk powder
- Milo
- Instant noodles
- Instant oatmeal
- Biscuits
- Diapers
The above items are to be delivered to the following addresses:
- For Penang island – Penang Legal Aid Centre at No.21 Green Hall, 10200 Penang (Mon – Fri between 9:00am – 4:30pm)
- For the mainland – Butterworth Legal Aid Centre at No. 11, 2nd Floor, Lorong Jermal Indah, Taman Jermal Indah, 12300 Butterworth (Mon – Fri between 9:00am to 4:30pm)
Cash Donations
Monetary donations can be sent to the Penang Bar Secretariat at No.4 Green Hall, 10200 Penang either by cash or cheque (payable to ‘Penang Bar Committee’).
The deadline for collection of the items listed above and cash donations is 16 Nov 2017. The money raised will be used to purchase essential items and/or donated to the flood victims.
The essential items and cash donations will be handed over to flood victims identified by the Penang Bar Committee starting with our own staff as well as staff of legal firms who have been affected by the floods.
