Circular No: 204/2025
Date: 18 November 2025
Dear Members of the Kuala Lumpur Bar,
The Common Bar Course Curriculum Committee, set up by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board, has established the Common Bar Course Taskforce (“Taskforce”) to develop the curriculum, pedagogy, and standards for the Common Bar Course (“CBC”).
The Taskforce comprises academics from both public and private universities, as well as representatives from the Malaysian Bar. They have been entrusted with the responsibility of formulating the syllabus, teaching methods, and assessment standards for the course.
The Taskforce is also tasked with incorporating findings from previous studies, as well as current stakeholder views, into a final and implementable CBC framework, in line with both local and international standards.
To this end, the Taskforce has launched a public survey to obtain feedback and recommendations from all relevant stakeholders, including members of the legal profession. The survey invites views on the Certificate in Legal Practice (“CLP”), including the need for its reform; and suggestions on the core competencies, delivery methods, and assessment approaches that would best equip young lawyers for their early years of practice or careers in the corporate sector.
We strongly encourage members to participate in this important initiative by completing the survey and sharing your insights, on or before Friday, 21 November 2025.
Please click here to access and submit the survey.
Thank you for your participation.
