October 2021 | KL Bar Mental Health Awareness Month

1st October 2021 - 31st October 2021

To Members and Pupils-In-Chambers of the Kuala Lumpur Bar,

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a serious mental health crisis amongst Malaysians. A study of 1,163 respondents by Universiti Malaya showed a consistent increase in the prevalence of depressive, anxiety and stress symptoms across four different movement control orders (MCO) in Malaysia.

To raise awareness on mental health, the KLBC Young Lawyers Committee (“KLYLC”) has declared this October as the “KL Bar Mental Health Awareness Month”. The key objectives of the KL Bar Mental Health Awareness Month are to prioritise mental health, convey the message that you are not alone, and to acknowledge that it is okay to ask for help. As part of this initiative, the KLYLC will be organising a series of events through its social media during this month.

The KLYLC has also recently started a survey to help identify the mental health needs and concerns of lawyers and pupils in Kuala Lumpur. The deadline to complete the survey has been extended to 29 October 2021 (Friday) at 5.00pm. To participate in the survey, please click here.
