Circular No: 055/2020
Dear Members of the Kuala Lumpur Bar,
The KLBC Criminal Law Practice Committee recently had a meeting with the Kuala Lumpur Courts. There was an exchange of feedback with the Courts. The Courts have requested that we issue the following reminders to Members:
Court Decorum & Etiquette
Members are urged to be mindful of court decorum and etiquette such as punctuality. Members are further requested to write in for postponements at the earliest possible time and not to request to adjourn matters on the day itself.
Medical Certificates
Members who request for adjournments on the basis of ill health are reminded to provide the Court with the MC especially when so requested.
Appeal Cases From The Subordinate Courts
Please take note that for any criminal appeals arising from the Subordinate Courts, the petition of appeal must be lodged in the Subordinate Courts’ Registry and not the High Court.
Supplementary Appeal Records For Appeals From The Criminal High Court To The Court Of Appeal
Supplementary Appeal Records will be prepared by the Criminal High Court but in order to facilitate the process, we advise lawyers to inform the Criminal High Court of any Supplementary Appeal Records required by the Court Of Appeal. Members are urged to check and ensure that the Appeal Records are in order.
Please also note that Members should notify the Criminal High Court promptly so that the Court has sufficient time to prepare the Supplementary Appeal Records.
Regards,
