The KL Bar Criminal Practice Committee (CPC) made a courtesy call on the Managing Judge of Kuala Lumpur Criminal Court, Y.A. Dato’ Hasan Bin Lah and the KL Criminal Courts Officers on 07 October 2011 at 3.00 pm.

Apart from the courtesy call, the CPC had taken the opportunity to raise certain issues:

1.0 Tracking System at the KL High Court
KL Bar raised the issue of the repetitive procedure of the Managing Judge Unit (MJU) at the High Court level and suggested that old procedure having mentions in front of the same judge be implemented instead. This will be inline with the new amended Criminal Procedure Code in relation to pre-trial and case management.

The Managing Judge informed that he will raise the matter up during his meeting with the Criminal Judges soon and a decision can only be made with the Chief Justice’s approval.

2.0 Problems at the KL Magistrate Courts
KL Bar raised the Tout problem at the Magistrates’ Courts.
The KL Bar requested the KL Court Director administration to monitor their officers. The Court may also formally report the lawyers involved to the KL Bar and matters will be forwarded to the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board.

3.0 Bail Process
The KL Bar wish to record their thanks to the KL Court Manager, who had successfully improved the Bail Process from nearly a day to only one to two hours. The improvement was very much appreciated by all parties involved.

Both parties recorded their thanks and appreciation for the courtesy call and were happy that most issues have been openly discussed and resolved.

The meeting adjourned at 3.46 pm.
