Dear Members of the Bar,

Court Liasion Update-Outcome of meeting with Managing Judge of Selangor Sub Courts

The Selangor Bar Committee on 9th November 2012 met with the Managing Judge of the Selangor Subordinate Courts together with Selangor Sessions Court Judges and Magistrates.

Pursuant to our discussions, the following decisions were made, namely:

(a) Courts agreed that hearing dates should only be fixed on dates which are suitable to lawyers;

(b) No matter should proceed in the absence of counsel;

(c) Reinstatement of trial after DNAA should be before the same Judge or Magistrate;

(d) Courts should provide a copy of the charge sheet if requested by lawyers;

(e) Oral applications for stay after conviction can be heard & given.

Other issues and concerns which were raised and discussed are as follows:

(a) Delay of procuring notes of evidence and grounds of judgment;

(b) Delay in extraction of judgments and orders;

(c) Touting in courts;

(d) Criminal matters being called up early without notification to counsel.

The Courts agreed to look into these issues urgently.
