Meeting with the KL Court Admin and Security Officers

Dear members of the KL Bar,

Meeting with the KL Court Admin and Security Officers

A meeting was held with the Assistant Admin Officer (AO) of the KL Courts, head of the security guards and Polis Bantuan on 11.02.2011 to discuss issues of parking and the behaviour of the security guards manning the entrance to the KL Court Complex.
The AO informed that there had been a change of security firm and the current security firm, Anugerah Securities, had just come on board on 01.01.2011. There is a total of 55 security guards manning the KL Court Complex, 38 during the day and 17 during the night. There are also 5 Polis Bantuan (working in rotation) in charge of the security of the Court Complex.
The head of the security guards was requested to advise the guards to be more polite when dealing with lawyers. Lawyers are also advised to cooperate if informed by the guards that the car-park within the Court compound is full and not to park haphazardly along the access road leading to the Court Complex. The Security expressed concern that should an emergency occur such as fire, fire brigade trucks having to enter the Court compound through the access road may just damage the vehicles parked along the said road.
It was confirmed that lawyers’ vehicles would be allowed to enter the Court compound only if they have the Bar Council car-stickers and subject to the availability of parking bays. All vehicles must only be parked at the parking bays and not along any sections of the roads within the Court compound. We were informed that there had been accidents due to vehicles parking along the roads.
It was agreed that vehicles are allowed to enter the Court compound to drop off/pick up persons and/or bags/documents. However, they must leave immediately after doing so and not wait or try to park along the roads within the Court compound after being allowed in.
